The Basics[]
Alkanes are the simplest Homologous Series since they contain no functional group
The name of any Alkane will end with -ane.
You are most likely to be asked to draw a molecule of a named alkane, or to name a drawn alkane molecule.
You may also be asked to draw all the possible structural isomers of an alkane of 5 or 6 Carbon atoms.
It's unlikely that you would be asked to do the same for much longer alkanes as the number of isomers would be too large.
